Anal fissures are the small tears formed in the anal lining. They are also known as anal ulcers. An anal fissure causes a lot of pain and bleeding during bowel movements. Usually, a fissure heals on its own once the precipitating cause is controlled in a few days time. Rarely surgery may be needed in non-responders or very tight fissures

CAUSES OF ANAL FISSURES

  • Chronic constipation / Hard stools
  • Strained childbirth or violent Spells of Diarrhea
  • Other rare causes – anal cancer, HIV, tuberculosis or herpes.

SYMPTOMS OF ANAL FISSURES

An anal fissure has quite a lot of symptoms for you to understand what you are suffering from:
  • Visible tear around the anal region.
  • A small lump of the skin (skin tag) may form next to the tear.
  • Sharp pain in the anal region during defecation.
  • Spots of blood on the stool passed.
  • Burning or an itching sensation in the anal region.
